Yosef Stepansky was born in Israel and grew up in NYC in the ’60s. He returned to Israel in 1970 for army service (including Yom Kippur war). Since 1975 he has been a certified national tour guide and since 1980 he has been living in Safed with wife and 5 children. He is a professional archaeologist (MA, with honors, Tel Aviv U.) with the Israel Antiquities Authority and free-lance guide, mainly with professional groups. He also guides tours in Europe and Turkey and frequently lectures, including at international conferences.

His expertise is in Archaeology, Jewish and general History, Holy sites (including Christian), special and unique expertise of Safed and Tiberias and the the Sea of Galilee area where he’s been doing archaeological and historical research for many years, of which much has been published (over 100 articles and 3 books, some available on the web). Recently he’s been doing new research on his hometown of Safed – with many new insights.
