Shabbat Vayishlah 5782

Ya’akov can no longer run from his past; it’s coming to confront him head on. After 20 years away from home, it’s time to return, which means an inevitable meeting with Esav. And even when he emerges whole from that encounter, he will endure more trials and tribulations involving his daughter, vigilante sons, his beloved wife, and one of his concubines. Ya’akov certainly doesn’t have it easy. The drama of Parshat Vayishlah can be mirrored through music. As you read the Torah portion, see if you can detect a connection to these songs:

Same feeling, different Jack

Profound Canadians The Tragically Hip

Band’s name is fitting because that’s how long they were famous

Brand new release from Jason Aldean

Joe Jackson is incredulous

Lake Street Dive

Answers will be revealed after Shabbat ma’ariv and havdalah, which begins this week at 5:10 PM. Remember that during the winter months we are having minhah at 12:30 PM, after morning services and kiddush.

Wishing you a Shabbat Shalom and happy listening,
