Shabbat Bereshit 5782

As we begin the Torah reading cycle again at Parshat Bereshit, we learn what it means to turn chaos into order (or, to use the religious term, Cosmos). My challenge to you, dear reader of the Shabbat email and of the weekly Torah portion, is to imitate God and make some order out these scrambled songs. Each is a reference to something in the first version of the Creation Story in Chapter 1. Can you put them in the proper order?

David Crosby and friends

An underrated Styx track

Pay attention to Sting’s lyrics

Eric Burdon’s Band

Bryan Adams, a great Canadian

Ozzy and the Gang

I learned this Cat Stevens classic in second grade

He used to sing for Led Zeppelin

We will sort out the proper order of these songs after Shabbat minhah, which begins at 6:15 PM.

Unrelated to the quiz, here are three other tracks that come to mind with this Torah portion:

Moshav Band tells the Creation Story

My first concert was Bereshit, I guess

And their former lead singer with a beautiful song related to the Parshah

Wishing you a Shabbat Shalom and happy listening,

Rabbi David Wise
