Shabbat Lekh-Lekha 5781

As we enter the final Shabbat before Election Day, we meet God’s elected ones–Avram and Sarai–in this week’s Torah portion, Lekh-Lekha. My Shabbat morning teaching will address something that I sense many people are experiencing these days, and perhaps even more so this week: fear.

I can’t think of this Torah portion without thinking about the late, great Debbie Friedman, who wrote this beautiful song

As God guides Avram and Sarai to the Promised Land, yet another Bruce Springsteen song comes to mind.

I enjoy doing research on music, but I have to admit that this one mystifies me. It’s by the band Sparks. Two points for whoever can figure out why I included it. Bonus points for whoever can figure out what this song is about! Now I regret missing much of the 70’s on account of being a small child.

Don’t forget that we turn the clocks back an hour on Saturday night. We’re going back to Eastern Standard Time, which means Shabbat comes much earlier, starting next week!

Wishing you a Shabbat Shalom, and as always good health
