September 2019 Sisterhood News

Shalom!   It may have been a hot summer but we were still busy looking ahead and planning an exciting year at HHBJC Sisterhood. The High Holidays are approaching and we want to wish everyone a happy, healthy, and peaceful New Year.

We have great memories, from learning from a well-known chef about how to prepare a delicious Kosher meal to learning how to make our own tallit and tie the knots correctly. Many of us have been helping Ruth Kessler with her paperwork. Thank you also to everyone who bought honey from our ORT Honey From The Heart project. Because of you, more than 113 people will be enjoying that delicious honey for a sweet New Year.

Now on to the New Year! Congratulations to Marilyn Teleky and Judy Glasel, who have agreed to be our Sisterhood Co-Presidents for this new year.

It is time to mark the calendar: You should already have gotten this year’s Sisterhood Membership form. Please join us and come to our Paid-Up Membership Brunch on September 22nd and hear wonderful Judy Greene talk about “Jewish Sex Ethics.”

Dinner in the Sukkah has always been a hit with all those who join us. Keep your eyes open for your dinner invitation, this year on Friday, October 18th.

Next, we have our Torah Fund Brunch on November 3rd. This year the theme is Chesed and who better for us to honor than Laura Brodsky, chair of our Chesed Committee.

Lastly, another brunch – with shopping. Please plan to join us on Sunday, December 1st, from 10 am until 2 pm, for our Chanukah Brunch and Gift Shop Sale. Have a bagel and coffee, and buy your Chanukah (and other) gifts from your Sisterhood. We have some great new items!

This is far from everything we have planned – but it is a good beginning. We are working on events throughout the year. Many members have asked that we have the Maine Rebbetzin back to share more of her funny life stories. Other exciting ideas are being tossed around. How about having a dance night with lessons and time for us to practice what we learned?

Teamwork is the best approach to a successful Sisterhood. Please join us at our planning meetings, so we can provide interesting, educational, and fun programs. The next planning meeting will be announced soon. We are looking forward to an exciting year with Sisterhood. Our energetic group of women support the local, national, and international Jewish community. Your membership makes a difference.

Please accept the best wishes of everyone at Sisterhood for a New Year of Peace and Sweetness!
