December 2016 Sisterhood News

Shalom. The Sisterhood wishes you all a happy Chanukah. We are in high gear with an enthusiastic group of Sisterhood members who are planning a year of exciting events.

The Torah Fund Brunch honoring Carol Lieber was a great success with more than 60 people attending. Our guest speaker, Anise Parnes our regional Torah Fund president, spoke about the work of the Woman’s League for Conservative Judaism, and how our contributions aid the Conservative movement around the world. Thank you to everybody who made a contribution to the Torah Fund. It was a great opportunity to recognize Carol’s service to the center.

On Sunday, December 11, from 11 to 2, we will have our Chanukah Bazaar and party. “Chanukah Shopping at Your Doorstep” will feature a variety of vendors selling a selection of goods for adults and children, making shopping easy. Pocketbooks, jewelry, children’s’ toys, books, a Judaica selection, scarves and even Zumba attire are among the items that will be available. See you there with a jelly donut in hand for a touch of joyous Chanukah.

Our Sisterhood Shabbat will be held on January 14th. This is one of our most spiritually fulfilling events. Our Sisterhood members lead the Shabbat service from beginning to end. If you have not yet signed up for a part, please contact Lisa Azo or Marilyn Teleky. We always look forward to a beautiful service. As usual, a Kiddush luncheon will follow.

We are working on a special event to warm us in the month of February. Stay tuned.

We will prepare for Purim by putting together our “Shalach Manot” goodies. We need volunteers to join us at 10 AM. Come join us in making everybody’s Purim a happy and festive holiday.

In April we will be conducting our annual Women’s Seder. We will use our Sisterhood-created Haggadah.  This special event is educational, inspirational, and fun.

May will bring a special event being worked on now. A trip to the Nassau Museum of Art to view an exhibition of Halston’s designs should be a lot of fun.

The Men’s and Women’s Club are planning a joint dance that will make you want to kick up your heels.

On June 14th we will end the year with Challah bake. We will learn step by step how to make a challah that we will be able to share with our families on Shabbat.

Thanks to all of you who have sent in your dues. If not, please send your Sisterhood dues to the office, in are of Sisterhood. The Hollis Hills Bayside Jewish Center sponsors events that bring us together for a variety of cultural, charitable, and fun happenings. We welcome your suggestions and participation.
