September 2015 Sisterhood News

Shalom and welcome back after the revitalizing summer.  I hope we are all ready to work and socialize together as “Sisters in the Hood”.  Please join our energetic, intelligent, group of women who support our local, national and international Jewish community and the community at large. Your membership makes a difference, even if your support is only financial, but there are many opportunities for greater involvement. Please feel free to contact any of our sisterhood board members for information.

I am very pleased to announce that Marilyn Teleky will be serving as my co-president. Diane Landau is our treasurer and Maris Blechner is our secretary. Robyn Rosenberg is our membership chairperson and our new member, Lisa Azo, has volunteered to be program chairperson. Marilyn Seidenfeld has again volunteered to be our Gift Shop “go to” person. Thank you all for stepping up and congratulations on your positions. Although we have an outstanding board, we believe that team work is the best approach to success and invite all of you to join us at planning meetings and general events.

Our kick-off event and paid up membership brunch is scheduled for Sunday, October 18th at 10 AM. We are delighted that Lois Brafman, Nurse Practitioner, will be addressing us on matters of women’s health. Lois is very knowledgeable as well as a wonderful speaker. If you have any particular areas of concern that you would like to her address, please email me at: .

Our Torah Fund Brunch will take place on Sunday, November 8th at 10 AM. I am very pleased to inform you that our Torah Fund Honoree for this coming year will be our past president, Audrey Shepard. As we all know, she served as Sisterhood Co-President for at least 2 terms consecutively and worked tirelessly. The Torah Fund which is an integral part of sisterhood and National Women’s league of Conservative Judaism allows us a direct avenue to support Conservative Judaism and The Jewish Theological Seminary.

Plans for the winter and spring are diverse and hopefully there is something for everyone. Sisterhood Shabbat will take place in January, 2016. Each year our members lead the service in any way they can. It has been very fulfilling watching our members increase or change their roles each year. Please volunteer for something with which you are comfortable or volunteer for something that is uncomfortable for you and we will help you become comfortable.  On Sunday, March 20, 2016 we are looking for volunteers to help put together our Shalach Manot (Purim Project Assembly) for distribution to our congregation on Purim. Maris Blechner continues to be our chair for this event. Thanks, Maris. We will continue our annual tradition of the Women’s Seder on Sunday, April 18, 2016. We are working on other events including a Chocolate party on a Wednesday night in May and a final event on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, but their details have not yet been confirmed. I hope you will make every effort to join us this year. We are hoping to see you at all our events.

Have a healthy, happy and peaceful New Year!

Beth Sofer Diker,
Co-President of Sisterhood

Marilyn Teleky,
Co-President of Sisterhood
