June Sisterhood News

Summer is almost here and it is now time to reminisce about Sisterhood’s accomplishments for the year. We started off with our Paid up Membership Program when Rita Plush read from and spoke to us about her book of short stories, called “Alterations”. It was a great beginning to an active fall. We walked for the cure of breast cancer and honored Maris Blechner at our Torah Fund Brunch. As the weather got colder, we practiced our parts for the Sisterhood Shabbat and then planned our Purim Shalach Manot baskets.  Gaby Weilmann became our yoga teacher and her classes are ongoing. With the onset of spring, we emerged from our warm houses to the warm, sunny outdoors. We ran a wonderful women’s Seder which was fun, inspirational and educational. Our recent trip to the Nassau County Museum of Art was beautiful, educational and also provided great walking trails on beautiful grounds. Our last meeting of the season will be on Wednesday, June 10th at 8 PM. We are calling the occasion “Smooze away the Blues and drink a little Booze”. As of now, this will be a totally social program, where we can snack and sip some wine together. Although there is no definite program yet, there are often great surprises. Feel free to bring nonmembers to this event so we can get to know our neighbors. Please RSVP to the office.

We have been meeting regularly to create a series of interesting, diverse programs for next year. Our ideas include inviting an artist to talk about and show her work, a jewelry maker to talk about the creative process and show her work as well as a trip to the recording of a television show like Dr. Oz or Wendy. Please feel free to call me at 646-314-1343 if you have any great ideas or suggestions and want to help implement them. We will have spontaneous planning meetings during the summer, so please look for information and join us whenever you can.

Finally, I would like to thank all the women who helped conceptualize and implement our programs. Teamwork is a rewarding and productive way to keep Sisterhood fresh and energetic. Thanks again to those who worked with us this year and welcome to those new members/helpers who will work with us next year.

Have a great summer.
