Shana Tova – Gala Concert A Special Tribute to Israel

As you may know, this year is a very special year for me. It is my 50th Anniversary at HHJC. WOW!! How time does fly! It feels like just yesterday when I first stood on the pulpit in our sanctuary and saw so many warm and loving faces with welcoming smiles. I can still feel the incredible warmth in our congregation and it’s beautiful.

Our GALA CONCERT will kick off my jubilee year. It’s coming up soon. It will take place on SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 2014.  It will be an evening filled with Magnificent Music, A Full Symphony, Elegance and Warmth. This will be an event you will never forget and will cherish forever.   SAVE THE DATE….SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 2014 at 7:00 pm at the LEFRAK CONCERT HALL at QUEENS COLLEGE. In celebration of my anniversary, I have   decided to dedicate this concert to our Jewish homeland, A SPECIAL TRIBUTE TO ISRAEL… AM YISRAEL CHAI.  We will experience a wide array of music…Israeli, Chassidic, Pop, Opera, Broadway, Yiddish & Cantorial. The performers who will grace the stage are all unique in their own way and have all performed in some of the world’s most prominent concert halls, grandest synagogues and the greatest stages across the world. They will bring tears to your eyes, smiles to your faces and warmth to your hearts.

Let me tell you a little about the world renowned Jewish Musicians who will be performing……

Yes, I have invited him to join us again, CANTOR NETANEL HERSHTIK, the Cantor of The Hampton Synagogue. Netanel comes from a long line of Cantors. He performs on concert stages all over the world, with major symphonies, wowing the audience with his incredible musical versatility as well as his wide range of musical styles. He received much of his musical education from the Tel Aviv Cantorial Institute, the school where is father (world renowned Cantor Naftali Hershtik) is the Director and one of its’ founders. He will help us pay tribute to our beloved Israel, in his unique & beautiful way.

CANTOR RAFI FRIEDER is Cantor of Temple Israel of Great Neck. He was born in Israel and studied at the Rubin Academy of Music in Tel Aviv. He performs worldwide with major symphony orchestras and has toured extensively in Israel, Europe and the U.S. He has graced the stages of Carnegie Hall, the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris and many more. He has appeared on many television programs over the years and appeared in the role of the Cantor in the hit film “Keeping the Faith”. I am so happy that he will be joining us on stage and he will amaze you as soon as you hear him sing his first note. What a voice!

I am also very excited that we will have a Full Symphony Orchestra (THE NEW YORK SYMPHONIC ORCHESTRA) accompanying all of the performers.

I am so pleased to tell you that the orchestra will again be under the Direction of the world renowned Conductor & Composer, DR. MORDECHAI SOBOL (Music Director & Conductor of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra for the YUVAL CANTORIAL CONCERTS in ISRAEL).

Dr. Sobol is a leading force in the world of Jewish music today. He is the director of the Yuval Symphony Orchestra and Chorus in Tel Aviv. Through his incredible work and efforts, he has raised the standards of Jewish music throughout the world. Mordechai is not only a world renowned Conductor of symphonies, but he is also a brilliant composer. His musical orchestrations are simply magnificent.  Not falling far from the tree is Mordechai’s son, OFIR SOBOL, the Musical Producer of the concert. Ofir follows in the footsteps of his father as being one of the most musically gifted individuals in the world of Jewish music today. Ofir studied orchestration at the Tel Aviv Academy of Music. He is sought after by musical artists & performers all over the world for his unique and breathtaking arrangements. Ofir combines new and old, east and west, with contemporary techniques, yet without losing the authenticity of the music.

Yours truly, your Cantor, will also be performing.  I can’t wait!

Our own Michael Borman will be the MC and our own Joan Waxgiser will be the HHJC Co-Chairperson.
