December was a festive month at H2I! Our month started off with a program in the gym for our younger groups, while our middle and high schoolers joined their friends from across NYC for ice skating in Bryant Park! The next weekend, we had a great time cooking up some Chanukah treats at “The Festival of Delights,” where we made jelly-donut muffins, latkes, and more! Our USYers then had their Chapter Shabbaton at Hillcrest JC, where they spent an incredible Shabbat celebrating “Chanukah in Vegas,” the theme of our weekend. After Shabbat, we raised money for Tikun Olam (USY’s Tzedekah fund) through a casino night using gelt, and cooked up some delicious Chanukah treats. Our younger groups celebrated Chanukah that weekend as well, with our Hanukkah Hangout, at which we had a bunch of fun games and activities to celebrate the holiday.
In January, we have a number of exciting programs planned, including our Kadima Chapter Shabbaton from January 5-6, our Social Actions Shul-In for USYers from January 13-14 – which will focus on the topic of self-empowerment and self-esteem, a program for our USYers on Israel advocacy led by StandWithUs, and “Challah and a Movie,” at which all of our groups will learn how to bake challah on January 21.
