Youth Group October 2017 News

H2I got off to a great start in September, with programs like our Ice Cream Icebreakers, The Amazing Race, and a High Holiday Carnival. At these programs, our new and old members had a chance to get to know each other better through some teambuilding exercises, and learned about the fall holidays through some entertaining programs based on the themes of the High Holy Days

As we move into October, we have a number of exciting programs planned for all of our groups. On Sunday, October 1, our Nitzanim and Chalutzim groups (Grades 2-5) will be taking part in “As Easy as ABC,” where they’ll compete in a series of games involving the alphabet, and our Kadimaniks (Grades 6-8) will participate in “As Sweet as Candy,” a night of candy-filled competitions. Our USYers (Grades 9-12) will be in Westchester for METNY Kickoff, getting to know teens from across the NY metropolitan area.

On October 8, all of our groups will have a sukkah dinner at Hollis Hills Bayside JC – Grades 2-8 from 5-6:15 PM and Grades 9-12 from 6:30-8 PM. The following week, on October 15, our Nitzanim and Chalutzim groups will channel their inner mad scientists with a series of fun experiments that will produce some cool inventions, our Kadimaniks will have their divisional kickoff program, meeting their peers from across NYC, and our USYers will participate in a Harry Potter themed Escape the Room.

October 22 is full of programs like “Are You Smarter than a 1st Grader” for Nitzanim and Chalutzim, a Sunday Night Tailgate for Kadima (in which they’ll imagine they’re tailgating an NFL game with all the usual games and snacks), and our USYers will use our Nerf blasters for an original take on some classic Arcade games like Pacman. Finally, on October 29, we have a night of learning at H2I – Judaism thru Disney for Nitzanim and Chalutzim, where they’ll explore Judaic themes in Disney films, Do’s and Do nuts for Kadima, in which they’ll explore ethical dilemmas while enjoying some donuts, and Hot Topics and Hot Chocolate for USY, at which Rabbi Wise will be leading a discussion about hot topics for teenagers while they enjoy some hot chocolate.

Just around the corner is MENTY Regional Fall Kinnus, being hosted at our H2I synagogues. If you have not yet let us know if you can house teens for this program, please do so at your earliest convenience. This program won’t be possible without your support and assistance!

If you haven’t joined H2I yet, it’s never too late – registration is ongoing every Sunday night. If you have any questions, let us know at !
