Although the Festival of Lights was still a week into the future, the Ohr Chadash families and staff celebrated the holiday with all the brightness and warmth as if the hanukkiyah were aglow on the eighth night. On Sunday morning, December 18th, Morah Ruth Merrill welcomed the parents and children into the Hillcrest Jewish Center main sanctuary for the school’s annual Hanukkah Happening. Our school luminaries extended their seasonal well wishes to our children, their families, and our morot, and thanked our parents for their support of our programs and our teachers for their extensive efforts in educating our students. Morah Zehava of Kitah Gimel led our assemblage in the rendition of several classic Hanukkah melodies.
Following the program’s conclusion, everyone moved to the Moreida area, where each class worked on age-appropriate holiday craft projects. Delightful refreshments rounded out an extremely enjoyable morning.
The students, parents, and staff of Ohr Chadash wish to express its appreciation to Hillcrest Jewish Center for graciously extending its hospitality and serving as our host synagogue for the 2016 Fall semester.
Additionally, we would like to thank everyone who assisted in facilitating our transition to Hollis Hills Bayside Jewish Center in mid-January, where the school will be housed for the Spring of 2017.
We wish all our Ohr Chadash families a happy, healthy and productive secular New Year and we look forward to a fruitful second half of the term.
