Another great year at H2I is already under way! We started off with Registration and Fun with Chocolate on September 20, where our younger groups made Jewish-shaped chocolate lollipops, played fun games with M&Ms, and more! Our USYers participated in a Battle of the Grades to bond and see which grade had what it took to be crowned the best of H2I. Now that October is upon us, our programming is moving full speed ahead.
Because of the way Sukkot falls out this year, we’re having special programming on Thursday nights during the first two weeks of October to make up for losing Sunday nights. On Thursday, October 1, our Nitzanim, Chalutzim, and Kadima groups (Grades 2-8) are invited to “Pizza in the Hut” from 5-6 PM at the Hillcrest JC sukkah. We’ll have a pizza dinner, and play some fun games in the sukkah. From 6-8 PM, our USYers (grades 9-12) are invited to join us for our annual three-course sukkah dinner, which is always one of our favorite nights of the year! On Thursday, October 8, we start up our Gym Night programming for our younger groups, from 6:30-7:30 PM, while USY will simultaneously have a Lounge Night in the Youth Lounge, with pool, ping pong, foosball, and board games.
On Columbus Day, we encourage all of our youth group families to join Hillcrest JC for a Cemetery Clean-Up Mitzvah Project. Once Columbus Day passes by, our regular Sunday night programming gets started. On Sunday, October 18, Nitzanim, Chalutzim, and Kadima will have an Escape the Room program, where they’ll be divided into teams and “locked” in a room—with an hour to solve puzzles, crack safes, and put together all the clues to escape. Our USYers, similarly, will have a murder mystery program, where they’ll put together clues and interview suspects to solve a crime.
The next weekend, October 24-25, is one of our best USY programs of the year – our Social Actions Shul-In. After exploring homelessness and disabilities in previous years, this year, our teens will spend the night learning about discrimination. This experiential education program is always incredibly meaningful, and we look forward to a night of excellent peer-led programming. That Sunday, October 25, our younger groups will have an Israeli Sports Night, and learn about Israel through fun athletic competitions.
We can’t to start the year off with these exciting programs. If you haven’t registered yet, it’s never too late. Just stop by one of our programs and we’ll get you all signed up! Unless noted otherwise above, Grades 2-5 meet from 5-6:15 PM, Grades 6-8 from 6:15-7:30 PM, and Grades 9-12 from 7:30-9 PM. All of our October meetings are at Hillcrest Jewish Center.
